Growing towards Maturity

Responsibility

We are a community that actively seeks and pursues ways that we can grow spiritually (Eph. 4:14-15; Phil. 2:12-13; 3:12-16; Heb. 5:11-6:1; 1 Pt. 2:2).

We are a community that actively seeks and pursues ways that we can grow spiritually (Eph. 4:14-15; Phil. 2:12-13; 3:12-16; Heb. 5:11-6:1; 1 Pt. 2:2).

We are a community that takes responsibility for ourselves and for our church (Matt. 16:24; Pro. 4:23; Gal. 6:5; Rom. 12:3-8; 1 Cor. 12:27; Eph. 4:16)

Statement of Faith

  • God

We believe in one God who exists eternally in three persons: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. He is the Creator of all things. He is bigger and far greater than we can ever comprehend. Yet, there are certain truths that he has revealed about himself. He is all-powerful, all-knowing, and ever-present. He is just, righteous, and sovereign over everything. He is a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness. And He is on a mission to redeem a people for himself and to make all things new for his glory.

  • Jesus

We believe that Jesus is the Son of God--fully man and fully God. He is the incarnate Word. He was conceived through the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life and he was crucified on the cross as the substitutionary sacrifice for our sins. He died, was buried, and after three days, he rose again from the dead--defeating sin and death forever. He ascended into heaven and is now seated at the right hand of the Father as our High Priest and Advocate. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life and salvation is found in no other name.

  • Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity. He is not an impersonal force. He is the Helper, whom Jesus spoke of. He is the Spirit of Christ dwelling in all believers. He convicts the world of sin, regenerates sinners, and brings believers into union with Christ. He seeks to glorify Jesus in all that he does. By him, we are adopted as sons of God and we are sealed for the day of redemption. He equips and empowers believers for Christ-like living, mission, and service in the body of Christ.

  • The Bible

We believe that the Bible is the living and active word of God to us--written by human authors, but divinely inspired. It contains everything that we need to know in order to live according to God’s will. It is truth without error and in all matters of life and faith, it is the final authority. God’s word is absolutely necessary for our spiritual health. We must read, study, and obey all that it says.

  • Man

We believe that humans are created in the image of God and they are set apart from the rest of God’s creation. Sin entered the world through Adam, and now all of humanity is under the curse of sin. Because of sin, we are in hostility towards God. We are alienated from God and deserving of divine wrath. We are utterly incapable of saving ourselves. It is only through God’s saving work in Jesus that people can be rescued, reconciled, and renewed.

  • Salvation

We believe that salvation is made possible through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. When we put our faith in Jesus, we are saved. God sent his one and only Son, Jesus, to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. By his finished work on the cross, our debt of sin is cancelled, we are declared righteous before God, and we are adopted as his beloved sons and daughters. All of this is by grace, through faith, and not by works. Salvation is by God’s grace from beginning to end.

  • The Church

We believe that the Church is comprised of those who are genuine followers of Jesus. The Church is the body of Christ. There are many members, but we are united by the Holy Spirit into one body, of which Christ is the Head. The Church exists to glorify God in worship and to be a witness to the Life that is in Christ. Being a committed member of a local church is essential to the life of a disciple. Jesus has mandated two ordinances for the Church--baptism and the Lord’s Supper--which visibly and tangibly express the gospel.

    Ephesians 1:22-23; 2:19-22; 5:25-32 // 1 Corinthians 12:12-14 // Ephesians 2:10; Matthew 5:13-16; 2 Corinthians 5:18-21 // Acts 2:42-47; Hebrews 10:24-25; Colossians 3:16 // Matthew 28:19-20; 1 Corinthians 11:23-25

  • The Consummation

We believe that Christ has come and is coming again. When he returns, he will come with his righteous and final judgment on the world. The unrighteous will be condemned to eternal punishment in hell. And the righteous, with their resurrected and glorified bodies, will enter into eternal life to be with the Lord in heaven. When he returns, the old order will pass away and Christ will make all things new. No one knows when Christ will return, but we are to remain faithful and eagerly expect his return.
